Who wants to see what I got in my pocket??

Now that I am full blown commuter mode, I can only carry things to and from work that fit in my back pockets. Sure, I could carry a pack, but they bother my lower back. Plus, while trying to do a hard workout, the last thing you want flopping around is a pack. So, this morning, as I unloaded my pockets, I thought it was kinda odd what I found.

Let’s take a look at the picture..

Ok, what do we have here? Some of the normal things, my keys to the office, wallet (the little black “Jimi Wallet“), my blackberry, which I used to take the picture, 2 ipods (I was bringing my backup to work in case my battery on my main one dies), bag of oatmeal for breakfast, a bag of fig newtons, and what is that strange brown thing? Well, stored at work, I have a tiny grill. The aforementioned bag of brown mass is a raw steak. Yep, I carry around raw meat with me. Hey, I need the protein for recovery. Come lunch time, that baby was cooked perfectly on the grill….now that is some good eating.

Is that the strangest thing I carried with me?? Nope. Yesterday, I had some raw chicken and a can of creamed corn.

Man, this commuting thing is making me weird…

Its a cold one out there

Yep, that’s what the Weatherbug iphone app said this morning for the weather here in North Conway.

Is it really that cold? I don’t know, but its pretty damn cold. I would say the high was no higher than 15, that is for sure. And I would imagine that the gusts of wind are around 68 mph. I barely slept last night due to the high amounts of wind keeping me awake. It is pretty safe to say that I will not be outside on the bike, or hiking, or anything tonight.

Other than the big new of the arctic blast, today is just business as usual. My goal for the weekend is working on getting myself on a team for this upcoming year.

Unfortunately, GT has decided to discontinue the Dirt Coalition for next year, so there goes option 1. I thought something was possibly lined up in case that would be the case, but it never happened. So there goes option 2. I might have a possible option 3, but I do not have high hopes for it, so it looks like option 4 might be the case. Option 4 is going to be pick and choose any bike I want (what will it be, big wheels, tiny wheel, only 1 fork leg, who knows?!?!) and just head out on my own, sans team and hopefully beat up on some of the other racers…unless anyone out there has any info/contacts on a team they would like to share with me.

Now, if the weather would just get out of the teens and my back would be back to at least 75% functional, I would get back out there on the bike for some needed miles.

Hitting up the trainer..

In case any of you ever wondered, this is exactly what I picture hell to look like. The view from my trainer. Never a good thing.

Sorry about the horrible picture. That is the best my phone could do and I currently cannot find my normal camera.

Because of yesterday’s post, I needed to get off my ass and get down to business. So, when I got home, I walked in, gave the Mrs. a kiss and just went to get changed. There was nothing getting in my way from riding the trainer. Spinervals #22.0 – Time Trialapalooza was what was the prescribed workout. Even though I had this dvd for about 3 years now, it was one that I have never done. Not sure why, but I just never did it.

Gotta say, it was a pretty solid workout. It is about 80 minutes long, consisting mostly of 4 intervals: one 20 minute interval at a few beats below your lactate threshold (LT), one 15 minute interval at about your LT, which is about 5 beats higher than the first, one 10 minute interval a tad higher than your LT which is about 5 higher again, and then a 5 minute, all out, leg burner. See for yourself with my heart rate file:

That last one is an average of 186 beats a minute for the 5 minutes. That will get ya going.

Plans for tonight?? More of the same, but a different video.

Storyland Crit

Check it out…finally. After a few weeks of editing and making sure I got the newest and most up to date imovie software, here it finally is.

This is the helmet cam video from the Storyland Crit from a few weeks ago for the Porky Gulch race. This was the first time I really wore the helmet cam so it is a bit shaky. I now have it figured out, so they should be better . Either way, check it out..

New iphone ad you will never see

I have to admit, I am a bit of an Apple fanboy. For the most part, everything computer related at my house is Apple, both of our laptops are Macs, my routers and other wifi accessories are Mac products, and if there was a decent AT&T signal in town and I was able to buy an iphone, I probably would have one. I do, however, know a couple people who own them and I must admit that my blackberry is a better choice, whether it is the hardware or the carriers issues, for where I live.

Either way, I found this and it certainly made me chuckle. As a warning, in the first 10 seconds or so, the F-bomb is dropped…..enjoy.

Quick time trial testing

After a long weekend with not a lot of physical activity, coach had me doing a quick test so we can keep track of fitness levels. It was pretty easy to do, a quick 20 minute warm up followed by 30 minutes of all out race pace with another 10ish minutes of cool down. Legs felt good and strong (don’t they always on the rollers) and I guess I am happy with my effort. As this is my first test, I guess I don’t know how I did. After 3 weeks, we will do another test to check out how I am improving…

What a day

As I sit here waiting for my computer cleaning off the viruses I somehow picked up, I am sitting here just staring out my window. There is A LOT of snow out there. The paper this morning said we got 81.9 inches of snow so far this year and that we are a full 2 feet deeper than we were last year at this time. I never thought I would see as much snow as I did last year. I guess I was wrong, 2 feet wrong. I guess it is a good thing I got a Pugsley this year and also updated my rollers. It seems like it is going to be a VERY long winter.

Still here and kickin’

I have been quite busy for the last couple of weeks. At work, we have been making the catalog, so that takes up a bunch of my time there. When I am at home, I am spending most of my time on the bike and the skis. With all of this, it keeps me away from the net and relaxing. When I do get some time, I have spent it working on the new site, which should be done in the next couple of days. I have a few more links to get figured out and a couple of the colors to get worked out. With about 30 minutes of work, should be all set to go….
