After doing the cross racing this year, I checked out a bunch of team kits and checked out their site.  One of the cooler sites I stumbled on and check out quite frequently, is the Embrocation Cycling Journal site.  There are some pretty interesting articles on there, as well as some killer printed mags you can get your hands on.  I have already bought some of them, and they are quite the good reads.

Anyway, all of this ramblings let me to the point of this.  Pot holes suck.  Both while riding and while in the cars.  If you feel the same about pot holes, especially while riding in the early spring months, check out what Frances Morrison from Embrocation has to say about them.  It gave me a little chuckle…..

Do tell what you want you ask…ok..

How many people out there are involved in some sort of physical activity that use a heart rate monitor for?  I am guessing a few.  Now, how many people listen to music while doing that activity??  Again, I am guessing a few.  So, why is it that there isn’t a mp3 player combined with a heart rate monitor?

You might wonder why?  You might use 2 different devices at the same time with no issues, but I think it could work better. For example, let’s say I am running.  I might have specific heart rate zones that I want to stay in for that specific workout.  Well, with my tunes blaring, there is a good chance I won’t hear the little beep from the watch.  Ok, so look down dummy, you might think.  Well, what if I am cross country skiing and wearing a pair of gloves and about 8 layers of stuff??  Much more difficult to read the watch.  If the 2 units were combined, it could even tell you your specific heart rate, warn you when getting near the edge of a zone and tell you when you are out of a specific zone.

The fact that I could write this on my blackberry (and no, I didn’t) means that there are people out there with the know-how to make such a thing, so lets get on it.  I would gladly buy myself an ipod or something like that if I could plug something in to it to make it work….Heck, Apple does it with a pedometer, why can’t they just slap a heart rate monitor strap on it too???

Something else that upsets me.  This morning I was at the post office and and this huge fat lady (400lbs pounds) was parked in the the handicapped spot with a handicapped plate.  She waddled out to her car completely on her own.  When did being fat consider you handicapped?  Instead of being able to park close, shouldn’t they be made to park as far away as possible so they can maybe drop a few pounds???

I didn’t ride tonight.  I was just to depressed or upset or whatever you would want to call it about the cold temps.  I had the conversation with Kelly yesterday wondering if we are wasting good years of our lives living in this cold.  I really don’t like the cold.  Of the 16 or 17 hours of the day that I am awake, I would say my fingers and toes are numb 13 of those hours.  Its no fun.  Sometimes I just day dream about living somewhere like south Cali and riding the bike all day.  I don’t think I would ever really want to live in southern California (no offense to those living there, it is just too far away from my family and such), but somewhere like North Carolina wouldn’t be bad.  I would need to wear a pair of tights once in a while, but not 2 pairs from November until April.  But we won’t move.  I like my job too much and Kelly informed me that she likes the snow too much, so here is where we shall say.  However, if my boss said pack up your crap, we are moving this operation to warmer climates where you can ride your bike outside 12 months of the year and not get frostbite, I will have my junk packed up in less than a day ready to go.

Today was a commute and did a nice little recovery/preparation for tomorrow.  I am planning a 40-60 mile ride tomorrow all depending on the temps.  As of now, it is scheduled for a high of 24 with some snow, so I’m not all that amped up about going out in that weather mostly because I cant find my good winter gloves and balaclava.   My plan is to just head out, and when I can’t stand it anymore, come back.  Pretty simple plan.

Speaking of cold weather, I have something that I need to get off my chest.  My fiance has now been terribly sick for the past week and I have figured out why.  She is currently working at a preschool with a child as his aid, and she told me today they have a 45 minute recess everyday, plus a 30 minute recess before school starts.  Now, that is 1 hour, 15 minutes that the children are outside.  Last week, I don’t really recall it being much higher than 15 degrees outside and these supposedly educated school teachers are give preschoolers 1:15 outside every day.  What goes on with these people??  Umm hey, you see all those sick kids?? Ever think its because they are outside for an hour everyday in no doubt negative degree weather (with the wind chill) everyday??  Seriously, those people need to be smacked in the head.
