Back at it….now with more climbing

Back at it, and gearing up for a bunch of different events..  In particular, the Porky Gulch Classic.

Last night, I dug out the lights and went in search of some new trails.  A friend from work has been working on a few, so he wanted me to bring the GPS along and plot out some of them.  Around 6, we met up and that is where the fun began.

We met at his house, rode some a bit of trails and promptly went right up the south side of Cranmore Mountain.  It wasn’t a huge or steep climb but I haven’t been on the mountain bike for a while, so it did take some getting used to for the first little bit.  On the way back down, my 2 Cygolite Triden X lights lit up the trails like a baja car.  I wanted to  try and get some video with my new camera, but I couldn’t fit both of them on my helmet as I was in a hurry to get out the door.  After the Cranmore trails, we went across town and hit up some trails around the Hospital, then back to the Golf course.  It was about an hour of easy pedaling as the person I went with is still recovering from some injuries.

Not to bad of an elevation, but enough to get the heart pumping:

Elevation, Cranmore

This morning, well you saw the picture, was the perfect weather for riding.  We met up at the office with plans of killing ourselves on Hurricane Mountain road, then come back through North Conway back to work.  Well, this was the first time up Hurricane and it is definitely steeper than I thought it was, even on the East side.  With the GPS, we figured out the side we went up was about 10.2% and 2.5 miles and the west side, which we went down, is about 9.6% and about 1.75 miles.

Look at the photo, if you ask me, it looks like the mountain is giving me the finger:

Elevation, Hurricane

Damn you Hurricane Mountain Road, damn you.

Coach wants me to run tonight for cross prep, but we will see….I’m still not too sold on this whole “running fad”.
