What a weekend…

Posted January 11th, 2009 by mike

On Friday, when I got home from work, it was time to hit the trainer.  I got it all ready to go and cranked out a few outs of some drills.  I did some spin ups, which are just that, starting at a low cadence and spinning my way up to as fast as possible without bobbing on the bike, which was for me about 115 rpms.  After a few sets of those lasting different amount of times, I did a few one leggers.  It was a little difficult with my left leg because of my knee, so I tried to take it easy with that one.

Saturday, coach has me doing a little cross training, so that is just what I did. After a little 1ish hour hike with the little lady and the pup, I came home and got changed up for an adventure.  I strapped the snow shoes on y backpack grabbed, my poles and iPod shuffle and got to it.

My destination, North Moat:

About 3/4 way up the mountain, if you turn around, you get a killer view of Kearsarge Mountain, Cranmore Ski Area and the town of North Conway:

The total hike time was a little over 3 hours 30 minutes and as you can tell from this picture, I finished in the dark.

Today, the goal was 3 hours of activity in the aerobic area.  So, to take advantage of the 5 inches of fresh fluffy white stuff on the ground, I took Campy out for about an hour worth of cross country skiing.  We only went for an hour because it was her first time being out there with the skis and I think she was also a little freaked out.  Plus it was kinda cold and even with her running non-stop, she doesn’t do so well in the cold.

After that little adventure was over, I changed gears, grabbed all my bike gear and hit the trainer for 2 hours.  To keep the time flying by and the boredom at bay, I did a bunch of intervals just to keep the mind busy.  Nothing too tricky because of the need to keep the heart rate down.  Either way, after everything from this weekend, my legs are a little tired this evening.  A core workout tomorrow, so that should help with the recovery of the legs tomorrow.
