The Weather Man lied….yet again.

The snow wasn’t as bad as expected.  We only got about 6 inches of the expected 18 inches.  So in a way, that is good, but in a way, that is bad.  Either way, that’s 6 more inches of snow that I have to melt until I ride my bike.

The good thing about snow is that I took off much of the day and went snowboarding.  Any time I am not in the office and I am outside, that is a good thing..

More Snow

I am completely over this winter.  All this snow and we are supposed to get another 18 inches of snow tonight.  Throw in the white flag.  Time to look for a job in warmer climate.

Ok, I’m not really looking for another job.  I am just ready to ride a bike in warm weather..

Keeping busy..

This weekend was a bust for riding, even though  the weather was there for me to.  Let me explain.

Friday night it was snowing so I grabbed my newly mounted cross country skis and went out for about 2 hours.  It was a good time.  From this point out, winter won’t be completely awful as I now have something to do that challenges me cardiovascularly.  Most of the day Saturday was spent shoveling snow off the driveway and digging at the pile at the end of my driveway so I can get mail delivered.  The one good thing was that I got to take Campy for a 1.5 hour hike.  By the time that was all over, it was too dark and I was too tired to get on the bike.  Today was spent shoveling more snow, more hiking with Campy and since I did not ride in in this 45 degree weather, I figured I would build some wheels for the road bike.

Even though there was no riding done, I got to take Campy out for a while and that is just as important.  When I got the dog, the one thing I didn’t want to do was have her just sit inside all the time so I try to get her out and running as much as possible.  That is why I got a little athletic dog instead of a big loafy couch dog.  Sometimes it seems like a sacrifice my riding to take her hiking, but it is all worth it when you see her running and that tail wagging all over the place.  Plus, sometimes, its nice to just hike as it stretches out the muscles a little differently than just walking because of going up and over boulders and logs and things of that nature.

Pent up aggression

It is currently 12.4 degrees outside right now as I sit here watching the Tour of California on Tv.  That is one thing I have always hated.  Being inside watching cycling instead of being outside riding the bike.  Even in the summer when the tour is on and it is raining, I hate it.  Either way, winter is still here and I thought I was dealing with it.  Apparently not.  Kelly told me tonight that I really need to “get out for a ride on the bike soon” to let out some of my aggression.  Even if I can get out once a week, I feel much better about things, but these past weekends haven’t been great for riding.  Hopefully this weekend is different and I can log some miles.  I think both Kelly and I would be much appreciative of that.

More snow….and now rain

Well, with all this snow, it has changed over to a whole lot of rain.  Today it is expected to rain all day with temps in the mid to high 40s.  That equates to a lot of heavy, wet snow, and hopefully, some of it will melt away with the temps and rain.  Maybe I will be able to get outside on the road bike a little.  With all of this snow, I won’t be touching the mountain bike for a while as the mud season will be here till August.

On the racing side of things, the Tour of California has started up.   I got to watch the 2 mile prologue on Versus yesterday as Fabian Cancellara destroyed the field.  I am glad that Versus is showing  the race, but if you look at the schedule of events, they are showing the coverage at 11pm.  Really?  They want people to watch, but they show it at a dumb time.  If you want people to watch it, trying showing it at 7pm.  Sure, there are all these new fangled recording devices, but there why should I have to fire up the Beta Max and record it?  I would like to watch it during a normal time of the day.

Busy shoveling.

I have been rather busy lately. It seems as if it has snowed just about everyday or every night in the past week or so. Even if it hasn’t, I have been shoveling snow every day. Even when it isn’t snowing, I am still working on cleaning up stuff from the past storm. It is quite a mess here. The piles at the end of my driveway are probably 7 feet tall. It makes it hard to shovel the snow up onto it. I have been forced to carry the snow out into the street and wait for the city’s plow to come take it away. Good times.

Speaking of good times, this guy is on something. I’m not sure what, but it seems like it is potent. If you don’t think he is, watch the trailer below and rethink your decision.

2 unexpected days off

What a rough couple of days. Tuesday night I hit the rollers for 1.5 hours of rough intervals. Then when I laid my big head down on my wee little pillow, I turned to Kelly and told her “I am going to throw up at some point tonight”. At about 6am, the prophecy came true. Wednesday was spent all day on the couch/bed with a 101 degree fever after throwing up a bunch of times in the morning. Good times. Today will be spent playing catch up at work, then playing catch up on the shoveling that needs to be done being it just won’t stop snowing here. I think I will stay off the bike due to lack of energy as I was only able to muster down 2 pieces of toast yesterday.

Here is a little fun fact. It is supposed to keep snowing until about Sunday. That should be grand. One would think I would be happy about this being I just bought new XC skis, but since the bindings aren’t here yet, it makes it rather difficult to use them.

More fricken snow…

Yesterday was so lovely outside.  I was going to take the afternoon off and go for a little bike ride.  I decided, na, I will do it some other time.  That other time was supposed to be today.  So i went home, did some physio ball workouts and hit the rollers for a little over an hour.  Good stuff.

Today I woke up and Kelly was still in bed.  Normally, by the time I get up, she is already in the shower so she can get to work earlier than me.  When I rolled over, she had a grin and said that school was canceled.  WHAT!?!?!  I got up and noticed the 4 inches of snow on the ground.  SON OF A…  No bike riding for me outside.  Only in New England is it 50 degrees one day, then 5 inches of snow, then 40 degrees again the next day.  I should be excited about the snow.  I just bought myself some cross country skis, but I am not excited.  Why?  The bindings aren’t here, so the skis are useless.  I better get those bindings tomorrow or it better get a lot nicer outside so I can ride on the road instead of inside.

I don’t know why I complain about New England weather.  I have lived up here for 6 years or so and the “spring teaser” happens every year, yet every year, I get WAY too excited about it only to have my heart broken.

A perfect season?? No sir, I don’t think so..

Take your crying back to Foxboro where you belong, LOSERS!!!

For those who don’t know what I am talking about, the New England Patriots were on their way to a perfect season.  All they had to do was beat one more team, the New York Giants, in the Super Bowl, which the Pats were slated as favorites by a long shot.   Well, too bad for the Pats, they lost it.  And they lost it in the last minute, 17-14.  I am glad for this.  The Pats shouldn’t even have had this record.  For those who remember, the Pats were caught cheating early on in the season.  They were taping the coaches play calling and using that to their advantage.  Clearly breaking rules posted by the NFL.  All of those games should have been forfeited.  I now have to mention just how much of piss poor losers the Pats are.  Especially the head jackass, Bill Belichick.  This poor excuse for a coach was off the field, down the tunnel and half way to the locker room before the game was over.  What a disgrace.  Then his poor loser players followed their loser coach to the locker room.  I must say I am glad that New England lost.  Maybe some of these people here will now shut up about them.  I am sick of hearing them.  When people mention them again this year, I will rub it in how they lost the biggest game of the year, to a severe underdog in the last minutes of the game.  Tom Brady is not the great leader that everyone thought he was.  He sucked it pretty bad tonight.  You want a quality quarterback on your team?  You go with Eli Manning.  He is a winner.  He knows how to lead a team to victory.

I really wish I had some sort of Giant’s apparel.  If I did, I would wear it all week long.  Just to rub it in and I hate the Giants.  I honestly think I am happier now than if my own team would have won the Super Bowl.

Where is spring??

More shoveling snow today.  What a pain.  What normally takes an hour took a little over 2 because of all the rain and sleet mixed in with the snow.  I must say it was rather heavy.  The nice thing today was that at about noonish, it warmed up quite nice and things are starting to melt.  That is something that happens a lot here in New England.  One day it is really nasty out, sleeting, raining, snowing, and the next day, it is 40 degrees and everything is melting.  Today wouldn’t have been a nice day for a ride, but tomorrow sure is shaping up to be one.

Since I was not able to ride and I was pretty tired from shoveling, Kelly and I took the dog for a little snowshoe hike with some friends.  It was nothing special, probably about 3ish miles, all flat, but I was outside breathing in the fresh air.  And that is the important thing.
