Recovery and the Michelin Card

Didn’t ride today because of a few reasons. I do a race run at the local ski mountain on Wednesdays and it is rather difficult to commute on a bike while having a snowboard on your back. So I drove instead. When I got home, I started messing with getting a printer of mine wireless in the living room, so I didn’t ride the bike at night either. chalk this one up to a night of recovery.

I called Cyclops to get a warranty for my trainer, and luckily, they have a life time warranty. When talking about returning it, the gent on the line told me to send back mine, and they will replace it. He said it would take a little while because of them being backed up a little being this is trainer season, probably a week or 2. I told him my address and that I worked for Michelin his tune changed a little bit. He told me to forget sending mine back right now, and wait until I got one from them. He would send one today and over night it, so I wouldn’t be without my trainer for long. Like that ain’t the way its supposed to happen. Shouldn’t they be nice like that to everyone else? Well, I consider myself lucky, and he will have himself some nice tires on their way to him tomorrow. Scratch my back, and I will scratch yours. Thank you again Michelin Card.  Now if I could just work that with Jeep to get me a new Wrangler.

Cold days and broken trainer

I broke my rule of commuting.  Today it was 7 degrees when I left the house for work on the bike.  It honestly wasn’t all that bad.  I didn’t even have all of my bike clothing on, just a pair of jeans.  It honestly wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.  Then again, I only ride for about 6 minutes at a time.  I think I was colder sitting in my office than on the ride.  Silly old drafty building.

When I got home, I hoped right on the trainer for a 1 hour workout doing the Spinervals #24-Hillacious.   I must say it was a pretty good workout.  It is based on climbing so it works on strength using big gears and high resistance.  I got started, did my 3 minute warm up as the dvd told me, and noticed my trainer was making an awful weird noise.  I hopped off the bike and thought “this can’t be good” so instead of messing with it, grabbed my fiance’s bike off her trainer and used that one.  Seems like tomorrow I will be on the phone with Cycleops trying to get me a new one for nothing.  It should be under warranty, but if not, I will have to throw in the Michelin card and see what happens.

Another day, another mile

Today I did just the normal commute to work in the morning and my fiance picked me up for lunch, walked back and rode back home from work when the day was over.   Other than that, nothing much of difference.  I might try to get on the bike later tonight, but I am not sure.

Updated Goals page..

I just updated the goals page.  Weight loss is right on target, but the milage is a tad off.  I do well during the week with commuting and riding at night, but this weekend Kelly and I went skiing.  Which was one heck of a fun time, but it was a 90 mile drive round trip.  That is what kills me.  So I am down about 85 miles, so that will certainly take a little while to over come.  I guess I will really need to add more miles everyday to the 6 mile commute.

Back on the bike

Activity-Cycling

Today I got back on the bike for a bit of a ride.  I did Spinervals #16, Aero Base Builder #1 and it felt real good.  The back is hurting a lot less.  It might have something to do with the fact I have had a heat pad on it for a while last night and also a good 20 minutes this morning.  I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, but my back doesn’t hurt anymore and I even rode for 84 minutes.  I did all after I split wood for about 2 hours this morning in the 15 degree weather.  It was quite a heat wave compared to what the weather has been line for the past couple of days.

No way Jose

When I stared up my jeep to go to work, it was 0.3 degrees.  There is no way I was riding my bike.  As I sit here in my house, with 2 sweatshirts on, watching my heating bill sky rocket, I wonder to myself why I live in New England.  I am not a huge fan of the cold, so somewhere like Virgina would be great.  Not such a horrible winter, but still a change of seasons unlike Florida.  I am certainly in the wrong state.  Unfortunately my boss likes snowboarding and winter to much to move the business.  Guess there is nothing I can do but put my 2 sweatshirts and down jacket on and start my jeep up 10 minutes before I go anywhere.

Cold and painful

Just too cold this morning, 5 degrees at 9 am, and my back hurt too much to ride the bike today. I hope both of these things improve in the next day or so because this isn’t much fun.

No luck with the back

Activity-cycling
Distance-5.42
Time-26.42

The back is still hurting so again, I just commuted to work.  I hope this goes away pretty soon as I would really like to get back on the bike and do some workouts besides just commuting.  I guess it doesn’t help that my boss likes to snowboard so we hit the slopes for 2 hours a day on some days.  But since the back doesn’t hurt then, I don’t mind it and keep going, but I sure do pay for it later. Ohh well, the legs at least get some sort of workout.

The back is still hurting

Activity-Cycling
Distance-5.42
Time-27.32

Today I just commuted to work and back and did not ride the trainer. Because of my back hurting as bad as it does, I felt a day or 2 off the trainer won’t kill me. Sure it is early in the season, but I still need to make every training chance possible. This is the time when I will lay the foundation for the upcoming season, and as of now, my foundation is a little shaky.

On a side note, I installed a new operating system on the computer Kelly’s brother gave me. I have always wanted to try out a Linux based OS and after some persuasion some people talked me into installing Ubuntu . I must say I have never done anything easier. I put the disc in and WHAMO, it was loaded up quickly and smoothly. I must say, I don’t know why I haven’t switched from windows so much earlier. I have never had such an easy time installing everything and get it up and running. The great part about it is that all kinds of additional software is free. No googling or anything, just go to the applications section, hit the add button and it lists hundreds of applications to install. Could not be easier. I am pretty much computer illiterate and it was super simple to get things going, connect to my network/internet and do everything I normally do with my windows machine. I must say the hell will Bill Gates and the awefulness he represents.

Nothing much to speak of

Activity-Cycling
Distance-5.50
Time-30.38

Nothing much today, just a simple commute to and from work. Not too exciting.

When I got home I got to hook my TRENDnet KVM switch so I can work 2 computers with one set of speakers, one mouse, and one keyboard. For not being very computer savy, this was quite the easy install. I hooked up the 3 or so cables, and blamo, using both computers with one set of everything. So far it is a good product. Nothing to complain of yet. Then again it has been 3 hours. Give it time.
